Google+ has been around for a while now, and it’s still constantly improving. If you haven’t spent a lot of time on Google+ yet, you should really give it a try. Eventually, you’ll find that you really love Google+. Since the new social network is constantly being compared to Facebook, it’s important to clarify that you’ll even love it more than Facebook. Let’s take a look at some of the reasons why.
One of the most annoying parts about Facebook is all the ads on the side of the screen. They’re supposed to be targeted to your demographic, but they’re just distracting and don’t often offer anything good. With Google+, there are no ads to interfere with your experience. And with the threat of Facebook ads being integrated into your newsfeed in the near future, the absence of ads on Google+ is even more appealing. You don’t have to worry about ads popping up anytime soon, either. This is Google, and it already has tons of cash.
Hangouts are one of the coolest and most unique features of Google+. In a Hangout, you have the ability to video chat with a total of 10 people at one time. You can all see and hear each other, and there are endless uses for this. Facebook is greatly lacking in the video chat department as compared to Google+. Hangouts are great for friends and family, but also for business because you have the ability to collaborate on Docs, a whiteboard, and screen-share, too.
Circles have been hailed as the best thing about Google+, and they really are terrific. While Facebook does offer you the opportunity to organize your friends into “lists,” doing so is not very intuitive. And since you’ve been on Facebook forever already, it’s kind of a pain to go back and organize 400 friends at once. Google+ allows you to very easily separate your friends into Circles, and these Circles will help you digest your newsfeed and share things with exactly the right people.
Facebook is just Facebook. Google+ is Google, and Google is huge. Facebook is entirely self-contained, but Google+ integrates all the other Google services you know, love, and use on a regular basis. For example, you can check your Gmail and share something via Google+ without leaving your inbox. You can share your Docs, and you can utilize the all-powerful Google Search to enhance your experience. If you love Google – and who doesn’t? – you’ll naturally enjoy Google+ as well. And as Google+ matures, you can expect even more Google integration.
Another great reason to love Google+ is that it just looks nice. It may take some getting used to, but you’ll soon find that the layout and design of Google+ makes a lot more sense than Facebook. It’s much easier to navigate, especially when it comes to privacy controls. Timelines may look cool, but Google+ offers a profile that is simple and straight-forward. It’s easy to customize your profile and share exactly the information you want to with Google+.
